Joe was born in Biloxi, Ms. On July 26, 1937 and died at the age of 78 on July 22, 2016.
He was raised on Holley St. in Biloxi, MS. and in Erath, and Henry La. He joined the US Navy in 1955 where he served three years before joining the US Army for twenty years. During his military career he served in Korea; Asmara Eritrea, Africa; Vietnam; and Thailand. He and his family were stationed at several US Army bases.
He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), The Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars, The Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.
Upon retirement from the Army, Joe and his family moved back to Biloxi, Ms. He worked in the hospitality industry and was a proud member of the ""Who Dat"" Nation. He lived in Biloxi until after Hurricane Katrina at which time he and his wife Mazel moved to Abbeville, La.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Bevian and Wilda Chatagnier Broussard. He is survived by his wife Mazel Broussard of Abbeville, La.; his three children, Michelle Kays, her husband Bill and granddaughter Kelsey; Denise Broussard, and Joseph Janara Broussard Jr. and his grandson Janara Martin and his children's mother Maureen Broussard; two sisters, Barbara Davis and Cecile Woodcock, and two brothers, Glynn and Jimmy Broussard; and Joe's bonus children Lonnie and Brady Lee, Karen and Tim Buford, and Mitzi and Randy Derouen In addition he is survived by his many Cajun cousins including Broussard's, Chatagnier's, Landry's Lane's, Guidry's........
A graveside military service will be held at the Biloxi National Cemetery at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, July 26, 2016. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Rd. Ste 300, Jacksonville, Fl. 32256.
A gathering of family and friends will follow at Cedar Lake Christian Assembly in Biloxi, MS.
