Joseph Edward Brockhoff, Jr.

Joseph E. Brockhoff, Jr., age 88, returned home on June 2, 2025. He was born and raised in Metairie, Louisiana. It was here that his love of baseball began.

Joe watched many New Orleans Pelican games through the knot hole of the fence at Pelican Stadium. At East Jefferson High School, he played multiple sports, but baseball was always his focus. He graduated in 1956 and played ball for Perkinston Junior college and later signed with the New York Yankee organization. However, he had something that he cherished more than baseball, his wife Joanne. In 1959 he came back home to Louisiana and married the love of his life. He finished his degree at Southern Mississippi, and began coaching at Metairie Jr. High, Adams Jr. High, and later East Jefferson High School in Metairie. At E.J. he helped his baseball team win 2 state championships back-to-back. In 1975, Tulane University chose him to lead the Green Wave baseball program. As the head coach he led his team to 3 conference titles, 7 NCAA regionals, and compiled a winning record of over 600 wins. In his 19 years at Tulane, he has the 2nd most wins of any coach at any sport at Tulane University. After he retired from Tulane his success continued. He has been inducted into the All-State Sugar Bowl, Tulane Athletics, Louisiana Baseball Coaches Association, and the MGCCC Hall of Fame.

Coach Brockhoff had many things to be proud of in his career. But he took the most pride in his wife and family. He and Joanne raised 3 boys within the dugouts and baseball fields of East Jefferson High and Tulane University. Joe Brockhoff loved his boys, both family and players. He will be greatly missed by both.

Joe was preceded in death by his mother and father (Joseph Sr. and Mary Brockhoff), sisters and brother (Evelyn, Ruth, Beverly, Ruby, and Jimmy). He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joanne. He is survived by his sons Joey (Joanna) of Slidell, Louisiana, Bobby of Pineville, Louisiana, and Brian (Gianna) of Minot, North Dakota. He is also survived by his grandchildren William and Ty Brockhoff, Meagan McDaniel, Collin, Ashlyn, and Avery Brockhoff.

The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Waveland, Mississippi. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 PM. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery at Rotten Bayou, Diamondhead, Mississippi.
