John Elwood """"Sandy"""" Sandusky, 86, of Gulfport, died Tuesday morning, October 7, 2008, in Gulfport after a prolonged illness.
John was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in WWII. He worked at Keesler AFB, retiring in 1984. He coached youth athletic sports teams and refereed basketball for many years. John was an avid golfer and a member of the Gulf Coast Senior Golf Association.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael John; and his sister, Virginia Worrell.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Eva Gaston Sandusky; daughter, Michele Sandusky; daughter-in-law, Diane """"Dani"""" Sandusky; granddaughters, Rosalie Sandusky Knowles and Mikayla Isabelle Sandusky; sister, Mary Hodges; and brother, William N. Sandusky, (Caroline Gaston Sandusky).
Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m., Friday, October 10, 2008 at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport, with service at 10 a.m. Interment will be at 11 a.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery. The guestbook may be signed at www. riemannfamily.com.
