John Abner Rhode

John Abner Rhode, 86, went to his eternal resting place on October 15, 2013, in Kiln, MS where he resided for the last eight years.
John was born in 1927 in New Orleans, LA; but he spent most of his life as a resident of Metairie, LA.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife Mabel Haas, parents Laura Haas and George A. Rhode, Jr., and grandson Brandon Rhode.
He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He attended Mater Dolorosa, where he received his Ham operator license. He then attended Holy Cross High School. At age 16 he moved to Pascagoula and worked at Ingalls Shipyard as a welder. At 18 he joined the Army Signal Corps and was in Berlin when Germany surrendered in 1945. He then studied electrical engineering; got his Broadcasting Engineers license and became assistant engineer at the #1 country music station, WJBW. He moved on to O.K. Broadcasting Group and opened WBOK as well as many other stations in his career. On June 11, 1955 John married the love of his life, Mabel Haas and had seven children. He joined WWL-AM and TV where he remained a faithful employee until his retirement.
He is survived by his children John A Rhode II, Thomas A Rhode (Carolyn), Mark J. Rhode, Laura E. Rhode, Catherine Rhode Hoda (Kenneth), Paul E. Rhode, Joan L. Rhode and his brother George A. Rhode (Shirley). He was blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Annunciation Chapel, Kiln, MS with a visitation for family and friends from 9:00 AM until the Mass. Burial will follow at Bayou Coco Cemetery.
