John Wilson Prince (1987 - 2014) passed from this world to what we hope is a more gentle one, on Wednesday, February 12. He will be hugely missed by his brother Oliver Robert Prince, his aunt Michele Ochsner, cousins Elisabeth and Samuel Ertel, and close friends - Grant Wilkinson, Bobby Juneau, Challey Hays, Richard Garziano, Daniel Nofsinger - along with many others. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Susan and Thomas Prince, and grandparents, Eloise and Oliver Prince and Robert and Doris Ochsner.
John had a heart as wide as the world. Intensely loyal and generous, he inspired love and generosity in others. He graduated from St. Stanislaus looking forward to college and the chance to travel. He delighted in friends and family, music, dancing, carpentry, road trips, poetry and literature. He was a talented writer and took pride in the construction skills he learned from his dad. Like his father and grandfathers, John was a great story teller -compassionate and humorous. He had an infectious smile and exuberant dance moves compared (by John) to Mick Jagger's. John bridged many worlds and made countless friends along the way.
John experienced much joy in his brief life as well as far too much tragedy, including the premature deaths of his parents. Nevertheless, he continued to radiate optimism, and his friends and family are still reeling from this loss.
John's life will be remembered at a private service for family and friends on March 1. That evening, his life will be celebrated at a fundraiser - 10:00 p.m. at The Chimneys in Gulfport -to benefit Crossroads Recovery Center. We hope that by raising awareness, support, and funds for the treatment of addiction, other lives may be spared. Only by talking about it candidly and openly can the public understand that addiction is a disease, not a failure of character. All are welcome to the fundraiser or to contribute privately to Crossroads, 15094 County Barn Rd, Gulfport, MS 39503.
His brother, Robert Prince, shares this prayer: May John Wilson Prince be granted the accomplishment of his true will from the seeds of this incarnation, or the next, or with absorption into the infinite.
