John Phillip Pottinger, born on July 7, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, passed away on June 12, 2026, in Gulfport, Mississippi. He was a dedicated and honorable individual whose life was marked by service, education, and deep patriotism.

John earned a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, demonstrating a strong commitment to his education and professional development. His intellect and technical expertise were complemented by a profound sense of duty, as evidenced by his service as a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. John’s patriotism was a defining characteristic of his life; he proudly displayed the American flag every day in his front yard, a visible symbol of his enduring love for his country.

He is survived by his loving wife of four years, Jean B. Pottinger of Gulfport. Through this union, he was also a devoted stepfather to Angela Kennedy and Mark Brogdon, and a proud step-grandfather to Gabby Kennedy, Emily Brownlee, and Aly Brownlee. His family will remember him as a steadfast and caring presence, whose legacy of strength and honor will continue through their lives.

John was preceded in death by his parents, George Verne Pottinger, Jr. and Katherine Causey Pottinger, whose memories he held dear.
