John Howard "Mac" McCool, born on October 13, 1928, in Noxapater, MS, passed away on May 23, 2025, in Long Beach, MS, surrounded by family. A life well-lived, John dedicated his years to service, both in the military and civilian life. He retired from the Navy as a Master Chief Petty Officer after an honorable career that included service in three significant conflicts: World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. His time stationed abroad instilled in him a sense of duty and commitment that he carried throughout his life.
After his military service, John transitioned into Civil Service, where he also retired. He later pursued a career as a Realtor and a Care Salesman, demonstrating his adaptability and desire to connect with others through meaningful work.
In addition to his professional achievements, John cherished his time with loved ones, engaging in hobbies that brought him joy. He was known for his hard work ethic, his enjoyment of visits to the Island View Casino, and his enthusiastic support for the Atlanta Braves.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Helen McCool. Their bond was a testament to enduring love and partnership. He is also survived by his children, Debra Williams (Scott Hancock) and Michael McCool (Sharon), who carry forward his legacy. John was a proud sibling to his sister, Sharon Soma. His family further extends to his grandchildren, Wayne McCool, Tracey Staples (Drew), Eileen Wilson (Joey), Kathie Kozlowski (Joel), Amber Barefoot (Alan), and Austin Williams, as well as his great-grandchildren, Riley McCool, Bryce Haden, Joseph Kozlowski, Jr., Krista Haden, Justin Kozlowski, Gracie Kennedy, Avery McCool, Dominic Staples, Violet Kozlowski, Allie Ryan Barefoot, Abbie Lane Barefoot, Joleen Wilson, Mercy Williams, and Amelia Wilson, all of whom he cherished deeply.
John's life will be honored on May 29, 2025. Visitation will be held at Riemann Family Funeral Home, Long Beach from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM with Chris McCall officiating. . A burial service will take place at Biloxi National Cemetery at 1:30 PM with full military honors.
