John Albert Finnegan, Jr., age 64, passed away after a courageous two year battle with cancer on September 27, 2015. He never gave up hope nor his belief or faith and trust in the Lord. John had a 40 year career in the oil and gas exploration industry. He was also in the Harrison County Sheriff's reserve for eleven years. He didn't mind hard work. His motto was ""if you do something, do it right the first time"". He applied this to every aspect of his life. John was a wonderful, caring man. He loved his family and he put everything he was and everything he had into being there for his family.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John A. Finnegan, Sr. and Nell Combest; and his grandchildren, Heaven and Keith Steinmetz.
John is survived by his wife of 40 years, Wanda; his children, Carla (Scott) Mayfield, Hugh (Devan) Hopper, Jeff (Melissa) Hopper, and Carol Steinmetz; grandchildren, Nicholas, Kyrstan, Kayleigh, Mason, Riley, Sarah, Jamine, Lauren, Trae, Rusty, Joshua and Ty; his sister, Suzanne (Tommy) McGill; his brothers, Mike (Linnie) Finnegan and Nick (Susan) Finnegan; aunts, Martha Pearl Broadhead and Dianne (Wally) Hudnall; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be a visitation on Friday, October 2, 2015, from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport. The funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 3, 2015 in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Hopewell Methodist Church Cemetery at Penantly in Jasper Co., MS.
