John Anthony Bullock, known affectionately to all as Johnny, was a man who lived life with the same vigor with which a fisherman casts his line - with hope, a touch of skill, and a whole lot of tales to tell. Born on December 17, 1958, in the quaint town of LaPlace, Johnny set out to make a splash in the world, and that he did, until he bid us farewell on July 5, 2025, in Midland, Texas, after a valiant battle with cancer.
Johnny wasn't just any man; he was a character larger than life itself. A true son of Louisiana, he took his early steps in education at Monterrey Louisiana Elementary, where he was more likely to be found plotting his next fishing trip than sitting still at a desk. It was clear from a young age that Johnny was destined to make waves, not just in the bayou, but in every endeavor he pursued.
With hands that could fix anything and a heart as big as the rigs he worked on, Johnny carved out a career in the oil and gas industry. His expertise in facilities and his legendary status as an offshore crane operator were only eclipsed by his ability to tell a story that would leave you in stitches. Johnny's work ethic was only matched by his love for life, and he was a proud member of many associations where his humor and camaraderie were as valued as his professional skills.
Johnny's faith as a Christian was as deep as the oceans he worked above. Yet, he always joked that he and the man upstairs had an understanding: Sundays were for church, but every other day was for fishing, hunting, racing, or cheering on a baseball game. And when it came to music, only classic rock could match the rhythm of his soul.
Family was the cornerstone of Johnny's life. His beloved wife, Gisela Garcia Bullock, was his anchor in every storm. His son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Alysha, were his pride and joy, and his granddaughter Riley was the twinkle in his eye. Johnny's step kids, along with his brothers and sisters, completed the crew of his heart's ship, each of them cherished for their unique bond with him.
Johnny's sense of humor was as infectious as his enthusiasm for life. In the spirit of his comedic flair, he would often quote his favorite well-liked celebrity, saying, "I'm not afraid of death; I just don't want to be there when it happens." - a line delivered with a smirk, borrowed from Woody Allen.
In true Johnny fashion, we won't say goodbye with heavy hearts but with a tip of the hat and a smile for the joy he brought into our lives. Johnny's zest for life, his laughter, and the stories that will be told and retold will keep his memory alive. He left us doing what he loved: living life to the fullest, with a fishing rod in one hand and a classic rock anthem in his heart.
So here's to Johnny, a man who never just 'passed away' but rather took the express train to the next great adventure, with all the gusto and laughter he shared with us here on earth. His legacy is not just in the work he did or the people he loved, but in the laughter he inspired and the lives he brightened. Johnny, you will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.
