John Joseph Braun, Jr., age 93, a resident of Long Beach, MS, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 in Gulfport, MS.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Joseph and Nora Cline Braun; and his loving wife of 68 years, Mary Elizabeth Braun.
John is survived by his two daughters, Susan Havens (Leo) of Long Beach, and Carol Howard (David) of New Albany, OH; his brother, Robert E. Braun (Darla) of Columbus, OH; his nephew, Billy Braun (Margaret) of Columbus, OH; his six grandchildren, Rick Howard of Columbus, OH, Shannon Hernandez of Biloxi, Tracie Stringer of Oak Harbor, WA, Tanya Havens Goolsby of Biloxi, Kristen Howard-Smith of Atlanta, GA, and Andrew Havens of Gulfport; his 15 great-grandchildren; and his 6 great-great grandchildren.
A native of Columbus, OH, John was a WWII veteran who served from 1942-1945 as a communications courier in the 319th Signal Company of the U.S. Army. After the war, John made a career as a fuel distributor for Pure Oil/UNION 76. Upon retiring, he and Mary moved to the Gulf Coast where they spent their time enjoying the weather and being with family.
The family would like to thank Elizabeth and Frank for the compassionate care they gave. They would also like to offer a special thanks to daughter, Susan AKA ""Lucille"", for being the full-time provider during John's final years.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., with the Funeral Service beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 18, 2016 at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Road in Long Beach. Burial will follow at Long Beach City Cemetery.
