~~ Jody Pool, 87, of Gulfport passed away on November 2. Born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, Jody quickly adopted the Mississippi Gulf Coast as her home in 1965. She was known for her ready smile for everyone she met and her kind expressions of love for family and friends.
Her favorite place to work was the children's area at the Harrison County Library helping children find the perfect book. She was instrumental in forming The Unity Church of Gulfport and as a charter member served in many capacities. Jody believed in community; she was President of Children's International Summer Villages and led a children's delegation to Mexico, and she worked tirelessly for Friends of the Library amongst other community efforts. Her green-thumb was expressed in her involvement with the Woodglen Garden Club and the Bromeliad Society.
Jody is preceded in death by her parents, Lucille and Harold Weinmann of Indianapolis and a grandson, Barry James Youngblood of Gulfport.
Jody is survived by her daughter, Joyce Youngblood (Barry) of Gulfport and her sons, Jim Pool of Georgia, and Jerry Pool (Julie) of Greensboro, North Carolina. She is also survived by a cherished cousin, Karen Gilmore of Indianapolis. Her grandchildren are Bryan and Brent Youngblood; Sarah Pool, Annah McDonald, and Victor Pool; and Alexander Pool. Great grandchildren are Max and Ava.
Jody's family wishes to thank the staff at Seashore Highlands for their caring love for our precious Mom. We would also like to thank Sarah Hilbun for her devotion to our mom.
The Celebration of Life Service is planned for Wednesday, November 8 at 11:00 am at the Unity Church of Gulfport, 1700 E. Railroad St. Gulfport. Visitation will begin at 10:00.
Although Jody loved gardening and flowers, she would prefer a kind gesture or a donation to a charity of your choice. Two suggestions are: The "Barry James Youngblood Memorial Scholarship" for Math and Science majors graduating from MSMS,1100 College St., MUW-190, Columbus, MS 39701; or the Unity Church of Gulfport, 1700 E. Railroad St., Gulfport, 39501.
