Joanne C. Rea was born in Andalusia, AL to the late Claud and Mary Alice Simmons Clark. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Robert Creswell Rea, MD, a sister, Alice Meister, and two brothers, Claud and William Clark. She was a resident of Sylacauga, AL for 59 years where she was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church. She served as an elder and a deacon, church treasurer, two terms as president of the North Alabama Presbytery and a delegate to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church USA.
In 1970, Mrs. Rea was named ""Sylacauga's Woman of the Year"" by the Exchange Club. In addition to her volunteer and church work, Joanne enjoyed being with family, playing bridge and extensive traveling where she fulfilled her dream of visiting all the continents and oceans of the world. In 2010, she moved to Gulfport.
She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth and husband Dave Shivas of Alberta, Canada, and Catherine and husband Dr. Jim Rusch of Gulfport, MS, a son, Robert C. Rea, Jr. of Washington, DC, two sisters, Dorothy S. Clark and Carolyn Tavel and husband Paul, one brother, Robert H. Clark and wife Miriam, a brother-in-law, Eugene Meister, several nieces and nephews, and her grandchildren, Allison Shivas Watt and husband Sandy, Heather Shivas, Justina S. Rusch, and Robert Creswell Rusch, and a great-grandson, Grady Watt.
A graveside service will be held in Andalusia, AL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Presbyterian Children's Home, P.O. Drawer 577, Talladega, AL 35161.
