Rose Joann Magee Bommer passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 24, 2022.
Joann was born near Tylertown, MS on March 14, 1937. She attended grade school at Dexter High School. She was a graduate of Mississippi College, Clinton, MS, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education. Joann taught school for 35 years, first in the Gulfport City School System, and then 28 years at Westminster Academy. In 1998 Joann received the Star Teacher Award from the state of Mississippi, recognizing her admirable qualities and dedication to education which has helped shape many children’s lives. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Gulfport, and a member of the “Blessing Seekers” Sunday School Class.
Joann was preceded in death by her father and mother, Ottis F. Magee and Vivian B. Magee; three sisters, Sarah Magee, Nell Magee and Fay Bailey, and two brothers, Kenneth Magee and William Magee.
Joann is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, William E. Bommer (Ed); two daughters, Susan Fulton (Bill) of Jackson, MS and Christy May (Oscar) of Atlanta, GA; sister, Mary Ruth Lacy (Bill) of Greenville, SC; seven grandchildren, Sam Fulton and Grayson Fulton of Jackson, MS, William May and Simms May of Atlanta, GA, Stephanie Melstrom (Joe) of Roswell, GA, Kelly Smithson (John) of Dallas, TX, and Nelson May (Caki) of Winston Salem, NC; four great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday August 27, 2022 at First Baptist Church, 12190 MS-605, Gulfport, MS, with visitation beginning one hour prior.
