Joan Frances Corby Lee, a devoted mother, grandmother, and beloved member of her community, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2026, in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, at the age of 82.
Born on August 7, 1943, in San Diego, California, Joan was the daughter of John F. Corby and Bertha Dunn Corby. She brought warmth and meaning to the lives of those around her through her unwavering dedication to family and her many creative passions.
Joan was a woman of remarkable talents and interests. She found joy in ceramics, painting, cooking, and baking cakes, often sharing her creations with those she loved. She had a deep appreciation for family heritage and spent several hours researching her ancestry. Joan was a faithful and devoted member of the Jehovah’s Witness congregation in Lyman, Mississippi.
Over the years, Joan made her home in several Mississippi communities. She previously lived in Ocean Springs before settling for many years on Doug Lee Road in Saucier. In October 2024, she moved to Dunbar Village in Bay St. Louis, where she remained until her passing.
Joan was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Douglas Keith Lee Sr.; her daughter, Diana Sandoval; and her parents, John F. Corby and Bertha Dunn Corby.
She leaves behind a large loving family and extended family who will cherish her memory. Her surviving children include Tammy Sandoval (Larry Rice), Eloise Lee (Steven Bennett), Douglas Lee Jr., Jonathan Lee (Betty Ash), Ollie Elosie Caldwell (Steve Caldwell), Theresa Wooden (Larry Wooden), Shirley Balog, Mary Verrett (Gary Verrett), Cheyenne Lee, Miryah Guerrero Lee (Gerardo Guerrero), and Nathaniel Lee, Gayle Hebert (Carroll Hebert), Ivy Mackowiak (Stephen Mackowiak), and Angela Birdwell (Jeremy Birdwell).
Joan’s legacy continues through her many descendants, including 41 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren, and 31 great-great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her siblings, Patricia Ann Corby, Alfred Brenton Corby, Jesse Lee Corby, Debby Diane Corby, John Francis Corby Jr., and Cindy Corby.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Joan’s life on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, Mississippi. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Lee Cemetery No. 1, at 596 Red Hill Church Road, Poplarville, Mississippi.
Joan Frances Corby Lee will be fondly remembered for her boundless love, creativity, strength, and steadfast devotion to her family. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
