Joan Tarzetti Donnels passed away peacefully at the age of 80 on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 in New Orleans, holding hands with her devoted niece Michelle Doubt. Joan is survived by her loving daughter, Lurana Donnels O'Malley, her brother Gene Tarzetti, step-sons Alan Donnels and John Denson Donnels III, grand-daughters Teia and Ruby O'Malley, and beloved Basenji Desiree. Her adoring husband, the artist and photographer Johnny Donnels, passed away in 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents, August C. Tarzetti and Blanche Dedeaux Tarzetti, her brother Kenneth Tarzetti, and her sister Carmen Tarzetti Kalbacher. She will be greatly missed by her son-in-law Sean O'Malley, her faithful friend Phyllis Fullerton, by many in-laws, relatives, colleagues, and friends.
Joan grew up in DeLisle, and was an accomplished athlete, particularly excelling at softball, basketball, and tennis. She graduated from Perkinston Junior College and the University of Mississippi. Joan began work at Bourgeois Bennett LLC in New Orleans, where she later became one of their first two female partners.
Inurnment of Joan's ashes, along with those of Johnny, will be at the Old DeLisle Cemetery in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to Kingsley House, 1600 Constance St, New Orleans, LA 70130. Attention: Development Department, in honor of Joan Donnels.
