Obituary

Jimmy Dale Bates Sr., age 71, passed away on July 8, 2026. A native of Biloxi, Mississippi, Jimmy was born to David and Mildred Bates and spent his life surrounded by family, friends, and the community he loved.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, David and Mildred Bates; his brothers, David Bates Jr. and Robert Earl Bates; and his sisters, Catherine Morris, Olivia Knox, and Mary Boudreaux.

A proud graduate of Biloxi High School, Jimmy honorably served his country in the United States Army. He carried the values of service, dedication, and patriotism throughout his life and often spoke fondly of his time in the military.

Jimmy's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his sons, Jason (Mary) Bates and Jimmy Bates Jr. He is also survived by his brother, Joseph (Cathy) Bates; his sisters, Diane (Jeff) Ledingham, Barbra (Phil) Rothermel, and Judy (Earl) Mitchell.

Jimmy was a devoted grandfather to Ashley Minter, Jason Bates Jr., Mary Elaine Bates, Austin Bates, Eli Bates, Katherine Bates, and George Bates. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren Nova Williams, Rowan Bates, and Hudson Bates.

In his later years, Jimmy found his greatest happiness in being a grandfather. He treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren, whether near or far, and the love he shared with them will continue to live on through generations to come.

Jimmy is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will cherish his memory.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Singing River Hospital and Hospice of Light for the kindness, compassion, and support shown to Jimmy and his family during this difficult time.

Jimmy's legacy of love, service, and devotion to family will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
