On August 25, 2015, God called a beloved man Home. Jerrel Elton Chambliss was born October 10, 1938.
He is survived by his wife, Bessie Chambliss; his daughter, Angie Thompson and his two grandchildren, Audra Elizabeth Thompson and James Austin Thompson.
Shorty Chambliss was the oldest of seven children, and he has two remaining sisters, Margaret Chambliss Hickman and Linda Chambliss Hollis. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army. Shorty was a 25 year retiree of Singing River Electric Power Association. His lifelong passion was nature and fishing. His joyful personality and cheerful attitude will be missed by all.
""Not how did he die, but how did he live?
Not what did he gain, but what did he give?
These are the units to measure the worth
Of a man as a man, regardless of birth.
Not, what was his church, nor what was his creed?
But had he befriended those really in need?
Was he ever ready, with word of good cheer,
To bring back a smile, to banish a tear?
Not what did the sketch in the newspaper say,
But how many were sorry when he passed away.""
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, August 31, 2015, at 3pm at the Gautier Church of God, formerly the Harvest Worship Center, on Gautier Vancleave Road in Gautier, where family and friends may visit one hour prior to the service.
Riemann Family Funeral Home, on the corner of Lemoyne Blvd. and Washington Avenue in Jackson County, served the family.
