Janet Inez Gronlie Snemyr, a beloved member of her community, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025, at the age of 89, in Diamondhead, Mississippi, where she had been a resident since 1987. Born on April 6, 1936, in New York, Janet lived a life rich in love, activity, and commitment to her passions and family.
A proud high school graduate, Janet made significant contributions as a dedicated professional as Executive Secretary with the Louisiana State Racing Commission. Her career reflected her strong work ethic and passion for her endeavors. Beyond her professional achievements, Janet was a devoted member of the Episcopal Church and actively participated in the Red Hat Society and the Diamondhead Philanthropic Education Organization, exemplifying her commitment to giving back to her community.
Janet embraced various interests that brought joy not only to her life but also to those around her. She thoroughly enjoyed playing golf, supporting local charities, and passionately planning events to bring people together. Her connections extended through her involvement in multiple Mardi Gras krewes, including Krewe of Diamondhead, Krewe of Diana, Krewe of Olympus, and Krewe of Selene, where she created lasting memories with friends and family.
Janet was incredibly proud of her family. She is survived by her children, Paul Arne Snemyr, Jr. of Diamondhead, MS, and Susan Janet Snemyr Brock of Aubrey, TX. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Kristin Riggs of Princeton, TX, John Brock II of Indianapolis, IN, Michael Brock, Jr. of Whitewright, TX, Krystall Smith of Houston, TX, Paul Snemyr III of Bay St. Louis, MS, and Steven Snemyr of Diamondhead, MS. She also leaves behind her cherished great-grandchildren, Christopher Riggs, Zoey Riggs of Princeton, TX, Lorelye Brock, Roselyn Brock, and Xander Brock of Indianapolis, IN, Michael Brock III of Whitewright, TX, along with George Smith and Benjamin Smith of Houston, TX.
In addition to her vibrant familial relationships, she is remembered by other family members, including Roy Riggs, Cynthia Brock, Leah Brock, Travis Smith, and the Snemyr family of Norway.
Janet's heart will forever carry the memories of the loved ones she has lost, including her late husband, Paul Arne Snemyr, Sr.; her parents, Arnold Gronlie and Inez Paulson Gronlie; her brother, Arnold Gronlie; her nephew, Steven Gronlie; and her sister-in-law, Barbara Gronlie.
Janet Inez Gronlie Snemyr was a remarkable woman whose spirit, kindness, and laughter will be profoundly missed by all who knew her. Her life's journey was a testament to her love for family, community service, and unwavering dedication to her passions. She leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and cherished memories that will continue to inspire those she touched throughout her beautiful life.
