Janet Cecile Clark, born on September 3, 1951, in Jackson, Mississippi, passed away on June 23, 2025, in Gulfport, Mississippi. Her life was characterized by her laugh, sense of humor, and ability to connect to people’s lives. Janet's professional journey began with her work in Mississippi, where she served as an Occupational and Physical Therapist for individuals who are blind. Her dedication to improving the lives of those in need led her to Austin, Texas, where she specialized in occupational and physical therapy for special needs clients.
In her pursuit of education, Janet graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg with a degree in Kinesiology, later obtaining her teaching certificate in California. Her career continued to flourish as she relocated to Southern California, where she became a Special Education teacher within the California School System. After years of service, Janet retired but continued her passion for advocacy by returning to Mississippi, where she worked at the South Mississippi Regional Center and later managed group homes in Jackson.
Janet was known not just for her professional accomplishments, but also for her zest for life. She had an innate ability to connect with people through her stories and songs. An avid reader, Janet enjoyed traveling to visit friends and family. Her evenings were often spent sharing laughter and good conversation over a glass of wine and a cigar, contributing to the cherished memories she created with her loved ones.
She is survived by her beloved wife of 34 years, Marcie Sheard; her siblings Jackie Guest, Randy Clark, Marty Clark, Stacie Clark, and Chris Clark; and numerous nieces and nephews. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, William and Pearl Clark.
A memorial service to honor Janet’s life will be held on June 28, 2025, starting at 3:00 PM at the Riemann Family Funeral Home in Long Beach, Mississippi. Following the service, there will be a reception at the funeral home allowing family and friends to share their reminiscences of a remarkable woman whose spirit and warmth touched so many lives. Her legacy will surely live on in the hearts of those she inspired and cared for throughout her life.
