Jane was born in Cleveland, Ohio and married Lt. Jack Baumgartner in 1944. Jane and Jack moved to Hancock County in the early 1970's after Jane retired from the Orleans Parish School System. Shortly after arriving on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Jane opened the Silver Creek School, a daycare center for multiple handicapped children from 6 to 18 years old, located in the Kiln. Later when the Hancock County School System took over providing for the Silver Creek students, Jane shifted her efforts as the Director of the first Child Development Center in Hancock County then located on Washington Street.
Jane is survived by her son William (Bill) Baumgartner and his wife Jeanne Gibson Baumgartner; her daughters Pamella Baumgartner and Nancy Hoppel and her husband Ronald Hoppel. Jane has three grandchildren William Baumgartner, Jr. and his wife April Marsh Baumgartner, Christopher Baumgartner, and Sarah Hoppel, and one great grandchild Baleigh Baumgartner.
In lieu flowers the family prefers donations be made to the ASPCA due to Jane's continual Love for all animals.
