James Edward Rodgers, born February 20, 1945, took his final bow on December 6,2025. A lifelong devotee of Elvis Presley, James always said he wanted to live like "The King," but nobody realized he intended to exit the stage exactly like him, too.
In a move that would have made Elvis himself give a curled-lip grin, James went out like the king on the "throne," seemingly having checked into the Heartbreak Hotel for good. However, James was never one to miss a chance for a dramatic reveal. Thirty minutes later, he decided he wasn't quite done yet, staged a miraculous "Encore," and began responding to the crowd. He gave his family one last set of memories before the "power went out" for the final time. James lived his life with a little less conversation and a lot more action. James lived 80 years with a "Taking Care of Business" attitude and a sense of humor that never quit. He leaves behind a family that will forever smile when they hear “Can’t help falling in love with you”, and a story that is quite literally one for the record books.
He is reunited with his parents Leslie and Dorothy Rodgers as well his brother Ronnie, sister Debbie and niece Jamie.
He is survived by his favorite cousin Dennis Ward, favorite niece Nanette Dauzat, nieces Mariah and Natasha, nephew Darrell. Great nieces Briana, Reagan and Roni Raye. Great Nephews John, Dustin, Conner, Eli, Dylan, and Mason. Several great great nieces and nephews. Sister in laws Carolyn and Angela Rodgers. And a collection of Elvis memorabilia that is now second only to the stories he left behind. Thanks Dave.
He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, blue suede shoes, and a story that will be told at family reunions for generations.
The King has finally, officially, left the building. Lights out!
