James ""Scotty"" Philip, III, 65 and a resident of Diamondhead, passed away on August 27, 2013. Born and raised in Waldorf, MD, he ably served his country by joining the United States Air Force and worked as a bomb loader while stationed in Germany. Upon his return to Maryland and civilian life, he worked for People's Life Insurance where he rose to the position of District Sales Manager. He then bought and managed his own bar and restaurant, The Island Inn. Scotty moved to the MS Gulf Coast in 1996 upon the death of his father to be with his mother. Once here, his greatest passion while on the coast was playing poker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ethel Philip and his beloved daughter, Tara. He is survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Scotty will be interred in a family cemetery in Pierre, South Dakota established by his great grandfather, James Scotty Philip, a former congressman and the man credited with saving the buffalo.
Riemann Family Funeral Home, 9113 Kiln Delisle Road in Pass Christian, assisted the family with arrangements.
