James Richard Parrott, 80, of Gulfport, Mississippi, passed away on September 4, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service to his community and family. Born on April 10, 1945, in Memphis, Tennessee, James was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
A high school graduate of Memphis Evening School, James embarked on a diverse career that reflected his commitment to helping others. He served as a Respiratory Therapist at Methodist Hospital South in Memphis, TN. In the 1970s, he also owned a pizza restaurant, sharing his love of food with the community. Later, he worked as a Reaction Control Room Technician for DuPont in DeLisle, MS, from which he eventually retired.
James was a proud member of Michael Memorial Baptist Church, during his life he actively served and contributed to various ministries. His faith was central to his life, and he found great joy in working alongside his church family. He was particularly fond of going to the movies with his wife and family, creating lasting memories together.
James is survived by his devoted wife, Linda Latham Parrott, with whom he celebrated 54 years of marriage. He was a proud father to daughters Theresia Elisabeth DeIorio (Chad) and Mary Ashley Fain (Brian). His siblings, Charles W. Parrott, Jr. (Laura) and John H. Parrott, along with his niece Tracey Nicole Charpie (Adam), have also been integral parts of his life. He deeply loved his grandchildren, Claudia McCleod (Kamren), Anthony DeIorio, Cherry Ann DeIorio, Taylor Young, Alyssa Young, Kylie DeIorio, Morgan DeIorio, William Fain, and Emery Fain. The joy of being a great-grandfather to Magnolia McCleod, Charlotte Belle McCleod, and Roux James DeIorio brought him immense pride and happiness. He also held dear his great niece, Mariah Charpie, along with nephews, Charles “Chip” Parrott (Deborah), Tom Parrott (Shari), and John Parrott; niece, Linda Parrott Coleman (Scott); and Steve Young (Rachel).
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Parrott, mother, Mary Blanche Parrott, brother, Thomas Parrott, father-in-law John Latham, mother-in-law Theresia Latham, and brother-in-law John C. Latham.
James Richard Parrott will be celebrated in a series of services at Michael Memorial Baptist Church in Gulfport, MS. Visitation will take place on September 12, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 AM, followed by a graveside service at Floral Hills Cemetery at 12:30 PM.
