BUC James Edward O'Connell, U.S. Navy, Retired, of Long Beach, MS passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at the age of 79.
He retired from the U.S. Navy Construction Battalion after serving for 27 years, which included service in Korea and Vietnam. Then he worked for another 26 years in civil service.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lourdes, and his children, Alice Lawson, Cathy Ross, Marquerite ""Peggy"" Brumfield, Joseph Edward O'Connell, and James Edward O'Connell, II.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Friday, March 22, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 9:30am. Burial will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, offerings may be made to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church or The Sisters of Mercy Retirement Fund, 720 E Beach Blvd., Long Beach, MS 39560.
