James P. Mooney, age 76, entered eternal rest on January 25, 2026.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David J. Mooney and Maureen C. Mendenhall; his sister, Carole Strickler (Tom); and his brother, David D. Mooney (Judy).
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary T. Mooney; his children and their spouses, James P. Mooney, Jr. (Janine), Chris S. Mooney (Annette), Correen A. Sutton (Dale), and Cory M. Mooney (Starr). He also leaves behind seven cherished grandchildren, Trey M. Mooney (Taylor), Tiffany E. Mooney (Ty), Brandon T. Mooney, Shelby M. Mooney, Mark J. Sutton, Nathaniel P. Mooney, and Tucker P. Shively, as well as two great-grandchildren, Cohen R. and Colbee R. James is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved him dearly.
James proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a Merchant Marine, serving aboard a carrier during the Vietnam era in 1968. His service to his country was a source of great pride.
He was self-employed in the HVAC industry, where he worked diligently and took pride in providing for his family through years of hard work and dedication.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Biloxi VA Hospital for the compassion, care, and kindness shown to James during his final days.
Burial will take place on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery, with United States Air Force honors.
