Obituary

James Melvin Wells, born on December 22, 1958, passed away on May 29, 2026, in Long Beach, Mississippi. He will be remembered with great respect and fondness by all who knew him.

James was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Joseph Wells, Jr. and Mary Wells; his brother, Roy Wells; his niece, Marie Wells Kelley; his great-niece, Carla Thomas; his sister-in-law, Donna Wells; and his grandparents, Dexter and Mae Bangs, and Corrine Goodbar. Their memories remain a cherished part of his life story.

He is survived by a large and loving family, including his siblings and their spouses: Elaine Thomas (Gary) of Lizana, Mississippi; Michael Wells of Long Beach, Mississippi; Raymond Wells of Long Beach, Mississippi; Mary Ann Carr (Clinton) of Sevierville, Tennessee; Dennis Wells (Connie) of Long Beach, Mississippi; Cathy Necaise (Craig) of Perkinston, Mississippi; Sherry Wells of Long Beach, Mississippi; and Linda Bria (Eric) of Long Beach, Mississippi. These family members carry forward his legacy and hold his memory close.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Gentiva Hospice Care Team for their compassionate care during James’s final days. Special thanks are also given to his doctor, Dr. Bobby Tullos, whose dedication was a comfort to James and his loved ones. A profound acknowledgment goes to his sister, Linda Faye, and her daughter, Racheal, for their tireless care and unwavering support through the end of his journey.

James Melvin Wells’s life was a testament to the bonds of family and the enduring power of love and kindness. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those whose lives he touched.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, Gulfport, MS, from 9:30 AM ~ 10:30AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church, 3521 19th Street, Gulfport, MS 39501, at 11:00 AM. Melvin will be laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery, Gulfport, MS, following the service.
