James L. "Jimmy" McCaleb Sr., age 81, of Long Beach, passed away August 5, 2017.
He was preceded in death by his parent, John L. McCaleb and Eva Josephine McCaleb; his brothers, Lee Drennan and Tommy McCaleb who is survived by his wife, Kathy McCaleb; and his sister, Pat Paulson.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Gloria Jean Entrekin McCaleb of Long Beach; his children, Monty McCaleb and his wife, Paula, of Flowood and Beth Scarborough and her husband, Ellis, of Long Beach; his siblings, Michael McCaleb and his wife, Ruthie, of Gulfport and Dorothy Thomas of Saucier; his grandchildren, Brittany Darden, Rachel Darden and four step-grandchildren; and his great-grandchild, Rebecca Carver and eight step great-grandchildren.
Jimmy served in the US Navy on the carrier, USS Coral Sea. He worked at the Armed Forces Retirement Home until his retirement. He was a former operating engineer, a jack of all trades and was always helping others. Jimmy was a deacon at First Baptist Church of Long Beach and a member of the John Thompson Memorial Sunday School Class.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Long Beach Building Fund in Jimmy's honor.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 7, 2017 at First Baptist Church, 300 N. Cleveland Ave., Long Beach. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at First Baptist Church, Long Beach with a visitation for family and friends at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Long Beach City Cemetery with military honors.
