James Logan """"Jim"""" Jones, 74 of Gulfport, died Tuesday, February 14, 2006 in Gulfport.
He was native of Mountainview, Ok and longtime resident of Gulfport. He retired from the U.S. Navy Seabees after 20 years of service and served with the Corps of Engineers. He was a Master gunsmith, A NRA Benefactor Member, Charter Member of South Mississippi Gun Club, A longtime member of the Gulf Coast Rifle/Pistol Club. He began competitive shooting in the 1940's and competed for the U.S. Navy and as an individual. He won numerous state and regional championships. In his twilight years he developed a love of cowboy action shooting. Jim owned and operated several successful gunsmithing shops in California, Louisiana and Mississippi. He was a devoted father and grandfather.
Mr. Jones is survived by his children, Ginny Lynn Yettaw of Rosemond, CA, Susan McKeithen of Clarks, LA, Charlene Jones Pippin of Chester, AR, and James David Jones of Gulfport, his brother, Orville Jones of Mountainview, Ok and a sister Pearl White of Ft. Worth, TX, and his grandchildren, Matthew Yettaw, Sarah Yettaw, Daniel Yettaw all of Rosemond, CA., Jack McKeithen, Jr., Robert McKeithen, Stuart McKeithen, Deborah McKeithen all of Clarks, LA., Nathan Lewis and Henry Pippin, III, and seven great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 18, 2006 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Gulf Coast Funeral Homes. Service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel. Burial at Biloxi National Cemetery.
