James Hanes, age 83, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 3, 2017.
Jim was born and raised in Evansville, Indiana. In 1951, he was stationed at the US Air Force Base in Greenville, Mississippi. He served in the Korean War from 1954-1955. Jim returned to Greenville where he married Geraldine Gilbert and together they raised their family. For the past 30 years, Gulfport has been his home.
For more than four decades, Jim was a commercial truck driver. In 2005, he began his career in school maintenance at St. James Elementary where he was known as "Mr. Jim" to all. He later worked for the Gulfport School District where he gained some of his dearest friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Edward Hanes and Pearl Ernst Hanes; brothers, Jack Edward Hanes II, Billy Hanes, Thurman Marvin Hanes; and sister, Dorothy Jean Hanes.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Geraldine Gilbert Hanes; his son, Bobby (Vennie) Hanes of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; his daughter, Kathy (Rick) Tubertini of Gulfport; brothers, Fred Thomas Hanes and Johnny (Dorothy) Hanes; sister, Beverly Ann Hanes; grandchildren, Amy Hanes, Scott Hanes, Ryan (Katie Jo) Hanes, Lauren Tubertini, Taylor Tubertini; great grandchildren, Landon Eldridge, Rivers Mae Sanders, Oakley Hanes; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, August 7, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport with a visitation for family and friends from 11:00 AM until the service. Burial with military honors will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
