James R. Cartwright

James Ronald Cartwright, 83, a resident of Harrison County, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026, in Diamondhead, Mississippi.

Jim was preceded in death by his wives, Dianne Cartwright and Lela Cartwright; his parents, Ted L. and Marie Beers Cartwright; and his brothers, Ted L. Cartwright Jr., George Cartwright, Thomas Cartwright, Larry Cartwright, and Lyle Cartwright.

He is survived by his loving children: Tabatha Scarborough (John) of Gulfport, Mississippi; Tiffany Cartwright of Gulfport, Mississippi; Drew McCully (Shannon) of Hoover, Alabama; and Cheryl Meyer (Aaron) of Ocean Springs, Mississippi. He also leaves behind his sisters: Pat Heath of Ravenna, Ohio; Cindy Poole (Ralph) of Zellwood, Florida; and Debbie Cartwright of Zellwood, Florida.

Jim was a proud grandfather to Rebecca Wetzel (Mark) of Saucier, Mississippi; Hannah McCully and Hailee McCully of Hoover, Alabama; Dallas Dauwer (Makenzie) of Gonzales, Texas; Zachary Dauwer (Caitlin) of Auburn, Alabama; and Emily Thompson of Gulfport, Mississippi. He was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Cameron Wetzel, Waylynn Dauwer, and Jeremiah Dauwer who brought him much joy.

Jim dedicated more than 50 years of his life to working as a skilled sheetrock finisher. In his later years, he enjoyed serving as a security officer at the IP Casino, a position he truly loved.

An avid outdoorsman, Jim found great enjoyment in fishing, hunting, and collecting knives. One of his greatest passions was volunteering with the ASARA Search and Rescue Group of Slidell, Louisiana, where he proudly served alongside his beloved search and rescue dog, Bridgett. Helping others through search and rescue was one of the most meaningful parts of his life.

Jim was also a proud member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners, organizations that reflected his commitment to service and fellowship.

Jim will be remembered for his strong work ethic, generous spirit, love of family, and willingness to help those in need. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life will be held later this year in Ravenna, Ohio.
