James Michael ""Jim"" Brown died in his sleep, from natural causes, at his home in Laurel Mississippi on Wednesday, October 28th. He was 66 years old.
Jim grew up in Houston Texas, where he was born on February 5th 1949. He later lived in New Orleans Louisiana, Long Beach and Laurel, Mississippi. He graduated from Behrman High School in New Orleans and the University of Southern Mississippi. He is also a graduate of the Mississippi College of Law and practiced law in Laurel Mississippi for many years up prior to his passing.
Jim was a devout Christian and was a faithful and serving member of Long Beach Presbyterian Church in Long Beach, Mississippi and more recently at First Trinity Presbyterian in Laurel, Mississippi. Jim was a qualified lay minister and often spoke and delivered services at churches. For many years prior to his death he faithfully led a Sunday school class at First Trinity Church.
Jim's life was characterized by compassionate and selfless service to others, either through his law practice where he often provided personal support and assistance well beyond his legal representation, to members of the community who were in need, or to his beloved family. Jim spent many years lovingly and selflessly caring for his father who was stricken with Parkinson's disease as well as for his mother in her final years.
Self-effacing and humble, Jim was possessed of both a kind heart and a prodigious intellect. He was a largely self-taught biblical expert whose detailed knowledge of the scriptures and ability to quote long passages amazed pastors and laymen alike. As an avocation, Jim pursued a life-long interest in the facts and circumstances of the assassination of John F. Kennedy and amassed an incredible almost encyclopedic knowledge of virtually every fact and speculation regarding that sad event.
A life-long bachelor Jim was proceeded in death by his beloved parents Clyde and Amy Brown and his maternal grandparents Dr. and Mrs. Frederick A. Johansen. Jim is survived by his older brother Bill who lives in Bozeman Montana and numerous fraternal cousins scattered around the country and for whom he had enormous love and affection.
Jim will be laid to rest at Long Beach City Cemetery next to his parents and grandparents. A visitation will be conducted from 1:00 to 2:00PM on Thursday, November 5th at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, Long Beach. A funeral service life will be conducted at 2:00PM at the funeral home chapel, by Dr. Charles Holland, the retired pastor of Long Beach Presbyterian Church and Jim's friend and mentor. Graveside prayers will follow at the Long Beach City Cemetery.
