Jackie Shivers Laird, age 84, of Biloxi, passed away Monday, August 17, 2026.

Coach Laird was born in Bassfield, MS to Harvey and Fredna Mae Laird. He was a graduate of University of Southern Mississippi where he played basketball. His love for the game led him to coach the Biloxi High School basketball team for 25 years, helping them win back-to-back State Championships in 1988-1989 and 1989-1990. Coach will be remembered for being a mentor and father figure to countless athletes along the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy Williams Laird; children, Darren Laird, Brandon Laird (Christine); grandchildren, Taylor Laird, Reagan Laird, and Jackson Laird; and sisters, Laurice Terrell and Carrie Castle.

Graveside services will be private. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and will be posted here once planned.
