Jack Ollis Powell of Gulfport, Mississippi died Saturday January 2, 2016 at the age of 70. He was born in Columbia, Mississippi in 1945, but lived most of his life on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He graduated from Harrison Central High School in 1965, and attended Phillips College 1966-1969. He was of Baptist faith. He was a talented musician and exceled in playing his saxophone. He wrote all the songs on his CD titled ""Out of the Cage"" and performed them with the band JACKKNIFE. His God given musical gift gave him pleasure, and he felt it made others happy. He always had a big smile and never said a bad word against anyone.
He is mourned by his sister Bo Mena Anderson, his brother Raymond Powell (Mary), two nieces Susan Anderson Williams (Kurt) and Tracy Powell Green (David), two nephews Frank M. Anderson (Rebecca) and David Brent Powell (Angie) and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack Ollice Powell and Bazil Powell, his brother-in-law Francis Bernard Anderson and niece Eve Anderson.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 9, 2016 for family at 9:30 a.m. and friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport. The funeral procession will leave at 11:00 a.m. and the Graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery on 28th Street in Gulfport.
