Jack Marion Higdon, 92, of Gulfport went to be with his Lord and Savior May 17, 2013. He was born in Pike County, MS and later moved with his family to Gulfport.
He graduated from Gulfport High School in 1939. He was active in all sports, especially tennis and football.
He was owner and operator of Jack's Sinclair Service Station on Pass Road for many years. He later worked for and retired from the Gulfport Fire Department.
After retirement, he devoted his time to the love of his life, car racing.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Bessie McEwen Higdon and his father, Burrell (Bo) Higdon. He is also survived by his first cousins, Kathryn Inez Meighen of Long Beach and Ida Ruth Welch of Houston, TX, as well as numerous other cousins and friends.
Jack was a charter member and deacon of Gulf Gardens Baptist Church, where he was faithful and dedicated to the Lord's service for over 50 years.
The funeral service will be held Monday, May 20, 2013 at 11 am, with a visitation one hour prior, at Gulf Gardens Baptist Church, 1415 38th Street, Gulfport, MS. Burial will follow at Pineridge Gardens Cemetery in Gulfport.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Gulf Gardens Baptist Church, 1401 37th Avenue, Gulfport, MS 39501.
