Jabous Willie Boyd

November 30, 1921 — October 30, 2013

Jabous Willie Boyd, age 91, of Gulfport, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, in Gulfport.
He was born November 30, 1921, in New Augusta, MS and spent his entire adult life in Gulfport, MS. Mr. Boyd served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and retired from Civil Service at Keesler Air Force Base on December 29, 1972 after 27 years in the Finance Department. He was one of the founding members of Keesler Federal Credit Union and was proud that his account number was #7, indicating his position at the table of the founding fathers when the idea of this now highly successful credit union was originated.
He was a life-long, active member of New Hope Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon as well as a church treasurer for many years. He loved growing vegetables every year and grew enough to feed the entire neighborhood. As much as growing vegetables, he loved delivering them to everyone, whether they wanted them or not. He also enjoyed the many strangers who would stop by wanting to buy vegetables. He was proud of the fact that he would never take a dime for anything he grew. Whatever he grew, he shared with everyone. He had a gift for gab and loved to tell his stories in detail.
Mr. Boyd was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Alpha Boyd, three brothers, Leroy, Howard, and Alvin, and five sisters, Troy Bond, Merle Fairchild, Nanny Lott, Letha Glass, and Myrtis Martin.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ida Bell Boyd, his children, Carlton Boyd and Carolyn (Woodie) Hudson, grandchildren, Matt Hudson, Marc Hudson, Vinnie Boyd, and Dallas Boyd, great-grandson, Alex Boyd, one brother, Norman (Connie) Boyd, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2013, from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, Three Rivers Road, Gulfport. The funeral service will be at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to thank Dr. Boyd Benefield, Darlene Purvis of Coast Cardiology, the staff of Camellia Home Health Care, especially Karen Walley, as well as the staff at Lakeview Nursing Center and Canon Hospice for their care and concern of Mr. Boyd.
