Obituary

Ivey Lane Rawson, age 93, of Picayune, Mississippi, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior on June 1, 2026, at his home surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on May 6, 1933, in Kosciusko, Mississippi, Ivey was one of eight children born to John Wilburn Rawson and Mabry Bell Ivey Rawson. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 73 years, Thelma Lynette “Pickle” Rawson; his parents; an infant son and daughter; and his great-grandson, Blake, with whom he shared a birthday.

He is survived by his brother, Wade Rawson; his three daughters, Teresa Neal (Keith), Sharon Henderson (Doug), and Catherine Reynolds (Alan); thirteen grandchildren; twenty-five

great-grandchildren; countless people he chose as family, and a large extended family who will forever cherish his memory.

A devoted servant of both his country and his community, Ivey proudly served in the United States Air Force for 37 years as a Military Police officer. Following his military retirement, he continued his life of service as a Harrison County Sheriff's Deputy and Bailiff for more than 20 years.

Faith was the foundation of Ivey's life. He faithfully served as a deacon and choir member for most of his adult years and remained active at First Baptist Church of Picayune, attending services even in his final weeks.

To know Ivey was to know a man who placed God first, family second, and the needs of others alongside his own. He devoted his life to helping anyone who needed him. He loved fiercely, served selflessly, and prayed faithfully. His family often joked that his praying knees surely needed replacing when he reached Heaven.

Ivey never met a stranger and rarely missed an opportunity to support those he loved. Whether it was a football game, school program, recital, or community event, he found a way to be there for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He especially loved football and was a devoted fan of the New Orleans Saints.

Known affectionately for calling his daughters and granddaughters “boy” just as often as the men in the family, Ivey brought a calm and steady presence wherever he went. He was a fixer in every sense of the word. If something broke, he could usually repair it. When he couldn't, he would simply smile and say, “The good Lord will take care of it.”

His laugh was infectious, and when something truly tickled him, everyone within earshot found themselves laughing too. His kindness, humility, and unwavering faith left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Though he held many titles throughout his life—Air Force veteran, deputy, bailiff, deacon, husband, father, and friend—the title he cherished most was simply “Pawpaw.”

Though his family grieves his absence, they rejoice in the legacy he leaves behind—a legacy of love, service, faith, and generosity. His influence will continue through the generations he nurtured, encouraged, and loved so well.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
