Irving ""Irv"" L. DePierne, Jr., 64, of Gulfport, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at the Biloxi VA Hospital.
Irv was a native and resident of Gulfport. He graduated from Gulfport High School in 1968 and attended MS Gulf Coast Community College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving in the Vietnam War.
Irv was an estimator and pioneer in the gunite/shotcrete and structural repair industries. Amongst his many projects, he was especially proud of his work on the Port of Gulfport, the Bay St. Louis bridge, the Bolton Building in Biloxi, the Port of Pascagoula, the George Washington Bridge in NYC, the NYC Subway and the Holland Tunnel.
Irv was the former treasurer for the Great Southern Club, and he was on the patient advisory council at Memorial Hospital at Gulfport. Irv was the reigning champion of the Southern Circle Steak Cook off ""Grill Master""and he was in the process of restoring his '86 Carver. He enjoyed many leisurely activities including golfing, fishing, boating, wine tasting, traveling and the telling of stories. He especially enjoyed his time with his grandchildren and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Webber, father, Irving L. DePierne, Sr., stepfather, Lee Webber and brother, Armond DePierne.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Donna DePierne; daughter, Sharie Williams (Jesse); daughter, Lacey DePierne; son, Christopher DePierne (Christy); siblings, Janice Doukas (John), Robert Webber and Crystal Wescovich and husband Tom; grandchildren, Justin Lockey, Landon Williams, Carson Williams, Addison Williams and Henry DePierne; his beloved pets, Bruce and Chris; brother-in-law, Bill VanAlstyne (Margaret); brother-in-law, Kenny VanAlstyne (Jeannie); nephew, Kenny Van Alstyne Jr. (Emerald), nephew, Miles VanAlstyne, and other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family expresses their thankfulness for the level of care and concern given by the Acute Care Unit, 4th floor at the Biloxi VA, especially nurses Brooke, Anna, Katie, Becca and Daniella. Also, a special thank you to Dr. Fred Pakron and the Doctors, nurses, and caregivers at Memorial Hospital at Gulfport especially Dr. Rizk, Dr. Sham, and Dr. Savanti.
