Iris Lee Ryland, age 86, resident of Gulfport, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2017.
Mrs. Ryland was born to John Lee and Eula Anthony Lee and grew up in Woolmarket. She attended Woolmarket Schools where she enjoyed playing basketball, a game she continued to enjoy watching throughout her life, as well as other college sports. She was a member of Coalville United Methodist Church and attended MS City UMC in recent years. She married the love of her life in 1953, Marlin Ryland, and resided in Oxford while Marlin was a student and she worked on the Square. After school and Marlin's military service, they returned to Gulfport where they raised their family and started their careers. She retired from the City of Gulfport as payroll clerk after many years of service. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and reaching out to help others. She will be remembered for her outgoing and kind spirit and how she never met a stranger.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marlin Ryland, Sr.; her parents; her siblings, James Lee, Doris Ross, Annie Ryder, Robert Lee, Ollie Fay Fayard, Jesse Lee.
She is survived by her children, Marlin Ryland, Jr. of Gulfport, and Julie Foster (Jim) of Gulfport; and siblings, Ruth Bartell of Wichita Falls, TX, Webb Lee (Karen) of Woolmarket, Hollie Lee (Billie) of Woolmarket, Lowell Lee (Christine) of Wiggins; one grandson, John Ryland of Gulfport; and in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2017, at Coalville United Methodist Church, from 1:00-3:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held in the church's sanctuary at 3:00 p.m.
Burial will follow in Coalville Cemetery.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation and love for the caregivers in her life, Margaret, Lela, Michelle, Nell, Annie, Tempie, and Zenovia. With their loving care, Iris was able to remain with her family at home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Coalville UMC or MS City UMC.
