Irene Elizabeth Hanson Hodges, age 92 and a resident of Lucedale, passed away on December 10, 2015, in Lucedale.
Mrs. Hodges was born on December 1, 1923, in Pass Christian, to Herbert Hanson and Katie Courtenay Hanson. She graduated from Pass Christian High School, and never missed a day throughout elementary and high School. Irene graduated with a Bachelor's degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and a Master of Education from Prairie View A&M University, Prairie View, Texas. She taught school for over 40 years in Mississippi and Texas - retiring in 1989. She was a member of the Pass Christian Historical Society, St. Paul's Altar Society, Pass Christian Garden Club, Pass Christian Library Club and was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church. She was a kind and gracious woman beloved by everyone she met. She lost her home in Katrina but never lost her love for her hometown of Pass Christian.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Jesse Alfred ""Red"" Hodges; her son, James Alfred Hodges; her brother, Herbert C. Hanson and her sisters, Dora Ellen Hanson Pickich, Julia Hanson Cerra, and Mary Catherine Hanson Ward.
Mrs. Hodges is survived by her daughter, Carole Hodges Aricer and her son, John Edward (Judy) Hodges, Sr.; her grandchildren, Paul (Shelitha) Hobby, Eddie Hobby, Katie Hobby Aricer, Karen Hodges (James) Berry, Kristi Hodges (John) Foret, John Edward Hodges, Jr., Jamie Hodges (C.G.) Moore, and Alfred Hodges; her great-grandchildren, Michael Hobby, II and Alex, Sean Stevens, Riley Parker, Carson Parker, Katie Berry (Matt) Lamb, Brittany Berry, Jamie Berry, Joseph Berry, Cody Foret, Casey Foret, Chloe Foret, Ian Moore, Lila Moore, and Vivian Moore; her great-great-grandchildren, Mason Lamb and Charlotte Lamb; her sister-in-law, Catherine Vaccaro Hanson and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.
A Prayer Service will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2015, at 2pm at St. Paul Chapel in Pass Christian, where friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Live Oak Cemetery in Pass Christian.
