Imogene (Jean) Schaffner passed away suddenly but peacefully on June 15, 2013, at Singing River Hospital. She was 87 years old. She was born in Fayette County, AL and was preceded in death by her parents, Thompson and Myrtie (Mosely) Smith; her sisters, Jewel Boggan and Maxine Hubbert and a brother, Vonnie Smith.
She is survived by her sister, Tommie Lee Keenum of Haleyville, AL, and a brother, Toney and wife Lavoy Smith of Tuscaloosa, AL. She resided in Biloxi since 1959 and loved the Gulf Coast. She worked as a manager with Credit Center of D'Iberville, MS and retired in 1993. She served many years on the Board of Directors with the North Bay-St. Martin Area Chamber of Commerce and was a charter member; was a member of the American Business Women's Association and a longtime member of the Gulf Coast Christian Singles Bible Class.
Her children are Helen Wooldridge of Lilburn, GA, Jane and Mickey McElroy presently of Ocean Springs, and Janet and George Schamberger of Ocean Springs. Her grandchildren are Brian and wife Teresa (Seals) McElroy and great grandchildren Mickey, Ransom, Saralyn, and Tucker; Jennifer and husband Jamie Kuykendall and great grandchildren Lauren Sealy, Lindsey and Kate; Keith McElroy; Tonya Merriam and great grandchildren Alex Bosarge and Sophia Reynolds; and Christie Gill. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir Road in Biloxi. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service. Entombment will follow at Southern Memorial Park in Biloxi. We will all miss her greatly!
