Imogene Bessie Jakins

Imogene ""Jean"" Hitt Jakins, 87 years old, of Ocean Springs, MS went to be with her Lord on Friday, July 8th, 2016. She died peacefully in her sleep.
Jean was born in Lauderdale County MS and resided in Ocean Spring since her marriage to E. A. ""Buddy"" Jakins in September of 1944. These two loved and cared for each other for over 71 years. She was his queen and he was her sweetheart and together they raised seven children.
Ms. Jean, as she was known by most in the community, worked for Swingster Corporation, formerly the E R Moore Company for 47 years. She began her long career as a seamstress when the E R Moore Company occupied the 2nd floor of the Lovelace Drugstore building and was one of the first five employees hired. Over her 47 year career she worked her way up to become Operations Manager of the Ocean Springs plant. Hundreds of ladies from across the Gulf Coast worked for Ms. Jean during this time. She did her best to become a mentor and a friend to all of them. After her retirement those ladies she worked with over the years greeted her with warm words and thank you's for what she had done for them.
Ms. Jean was an active member of the Ocean Springs Business and Professional Women's group and served as the group's president.
Ms. Jean is survived by her seven children, Ernest (Faye) Jakins Jr., Patricia (Hubert) Williams, Janelle (Charles) Schwark, George (Jane) Jakins, William (Kelly) Jakins, Helen (Toney Young) Jakins, and John (Diane) Jakins, her fifteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, her sister-in-law Jan (Larry) Byrd, and her beloved dog, ""Buster.""
Visitation and funeral services will be held on Monday, July 11, 2016, at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, corner of Lemoyne Blvd. and Washington Ave. Visitation will be from 4 pm to 6 pm and Funeral services will be begin at 6 pm in the funeral home chapel.
