Ila Ruth Holland, a cherished member of her community and beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loved ones. Born on December 31, 1935, Ila lived a life marked by dedication to her family, her faith, and her work.

Ila’s professional career included her valued time at Hancock Bank, where she contributed with commitment and diligence. Beyond her career, Ila was deeply connected to her family and the pursuits that brought her joy and fulfillment. She delighted in spending quality time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, nurturing close bonds that were a source of immense pride and happiness.

Her interests were diverse and reflected the warmth of her character. Ila enjoyed visiting with family, receiving  a daily bouquet of flowers grown by Danny himself, watching the birds on her porch, watching the news, shopping, painting, and cooking, activities through which she found joy and creativity.

Ila was a devoted member of the Nugent United Methodist Church, a community that benefited from her faith and presence. Her participation there was a testament to her deep spiritual life and commitment to service.

She is survived by her loving children: Cindy Holland Cochran and her husband Steve Cochran, David Holland and his wife Karen Holland, and Danny Holland. Ila was also a devoted sister to Lois Ann Shaw, who shares memories of some of their favorite activities together, shopping and having their hair done. She is remembered fondly by her seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She counted among her close companions her dear friend Frank Chapman, sister-in-law Carolyn Bobinger, brother-in-law Jimmy Holland and his wife Ann, as well as an extended circle of nieces, nephews, friends, and family members who treasured her.

Ila was preceded in death by her husband William "WC" Holland, her sisters Naomi Coleman and Mary Lou Pinkston, and her parents Ora and Ethel Schanbacher. Their memories remain a vital part of her story and legacy.
