Ida Boyd

Ida Bell Fairley Boyd, age 90, of Gulfport, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 27, 2017. She was born June 4, 1926 in Janice, MS and spent her entire adult life in Gulfport, MS. Mrs. Boyd retired from South Central Bell in Gulfport in 1976, having worked with the company for 33 years. Up until her health declined she was an active member of New Hope Baptist Church, where she was a member of "Charlie's Angels" Sunday School Class as well as a member of the church choir. She loved working in her yard and enjoyed sharing her flowers and plants with friends as well as strangers who would stop to ask about a bloom in her yard. She also loved her animals and would take in any stray that would soon become part of her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Jabous W. Boyd; her parents, Joseph P. and Venia Fairley; six brothers, Chester, Elbert, Marvin, Millard, Azora, and Robert Fairley; and six sisters, Geneva Smith, Nettie Andrews, Mary Fairley, Edna Mizelle, Josie Johnson, and Sadie Coggins.
She is survived by her two children, Carlton Boyd, Carolyn (Woodie) Hudson; four grandchildren, Matt (Amanda) Hudson, Marc Hudson, Vinnie Boyd, Dallas Boyd; one great-grandson, Alex Boyd; one great-granddaughter, Ryleigh Boyd; one brother-in-law, Norman Boyd; two sisters-in-law, Connie Boyd, Mildred Boyd; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 31, 2017 from 11:30 - 1 PM at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport. Funeral services will be at 1 PM in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to thank Dr. Champ Weeks, Dr. Boyd Benefield, the staff of Camelia Home Health Care and Hospice, and especially her nurse Howard. Also, a special thank you to her caregiver, Carolyn Kranz, for her care, concern, compassion, and help over this past year.
