Hurley Swain Ladner, age 73, of Kiln, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023, in Gulfport, MS.
A native of the Dedeaux Community, Mr. Ladner was a Navy and Army veteran serving his country from 1969 to 1990, during which time he was awarded numerous certificates and recognition for his service. Hurley’s first assignment was with the USS Guam LPH-9 and then served the Army National Guard 1355th, Supply and Service Battalion of Hancock County. Hurley was employed by the Hancock County Road Department where he worked for 28 years as a Safety Supervisor. He enjoyed the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing and spending time with family, and meeting up with his buddies for coffee and lunch. His last few years he was accompanied by numerous canine fur buddies and cherished the time with each of them.
Hurley is preceded in death by his parents, Vanilla (Nell) Ladner and Wilmer J. (Cotton) Ladner; his paternal grandparents, Irene Cuevas Ladner and Alex Ladner; and maternal grandparents, Annie Smith Ladner and Ulman J. Ladner. Although he had no children of his own and was an only child, Hurley loved his friends and family and especially the children whom he sought to encourage with his kindness, compassion and his stories of life lessons.
The family would like to thank Dr. Stephanie Fussell of Memorial Oncology, and Canon Hospice employees of Gulfport, particularly Craig Ladner, Danita Holliday and Erica Carroll for their support, compassion and kindness shown to Hurley during his illness.
