Howard H. Lock

Howard H. Lock, a devoted family man, and proud Navy veteran, passed away at his home in Long Beach, MS on Monday, March 4, 2024.

Born in Tremont, IN on July 3, 1938, Howard led a remarkable life filled with service to his country and community. He joined the U.S. Navy during the Korean War by exaggerating his age and went on to serve honorably for over 22 years, completing two tours during Vietnam. Upon retirement from the Navy, he pursued further education, obtaining his Bachelor of Science from William Carey College, his real estate license and becoming ordained as a Methodist Minister.

Howard's love for his family was evident in everything he did. He cherished his late wife Ella throughout their 42 years of marriage.  Howard is survived by his son, Michael (Jennifer) Lock; daughter, Ruth (Phillip) Mitchell; granddaughter, Sarah Lock; and grandson, Joey Lock; and several nieces, nephew and a vast number of friends he has made throughout his life.  

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents, James and Ruth Lock; and siblings, Leonard Lock, Richard Lock, and Alice Sanders.

Aside from his military and professional achievements, Howard immersed himself in various community service roles. He and Ella dedicated many years to the Salvation Army and were active members of the Orange Grove Kiwanis Club. Howard's contributions to the club were extensive, he is a current member of the Kiwanis Club, Long Beach.  In his tenure with Kiwanis, he served in many capacities - currently serving as Trustee of LaMiss Tenn District, Friend of the Foundation, Club Builder in Division 14, Distinguished Club Secretary - Long Beach, and Key Club Advisor - Long Beach.  His past titles as Lt. Gov. of District 14, Club President, Key Club Advisor - Harrison Central High School and West Harrison High School and Distinguished Club Secretary - Orange Grove.  His commitment to the Kiwanis Club has shown through numerous awards such as Tablet of Honor, Walter Zella, Ruby K, Distinguished Club Secretary and George F. Hixson.

In his leisure time, Howard found joy in collecting trains and villages which he enjoyed having on display throughout the year. An avid supporter of the Dallas Cowboys, he never missed watching their games.

Howard was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Long Beach and attended The Well.

Howard's legacy of dedication to family, God, country, and community will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace knowing that his kindness and love have left an indelible mark on all who crossed his path.

Visitation will be held at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 19130 Commission Road, Long Beach, on Monday, March 11, 2024, from 3:00 PM until the Funeral Service at 5:00 PM.  

Please join us on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, meeting 10:30 AM, at Biloxi National Cemetery, where there will be an interment service with honors conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Navy at 11:00 AM.


In lieu of flowers memorials to the Kiwanis - Long Beach Key Club in the name of Howard Lock will be appreciated.
