Howard Gordon ""Gordy"" Higdon, 65, passed peacefully from this life and into his Heavenly home on April 15, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He was a lifelong resident of Gulfport, and was born to the late Robert Gordon Higdon and Imogene ""Jean"" Higdon Taylor, on May 14, 1949. Gordy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He enjoyed fishing, painting, sculpting and writing. He graduated with honors from USM with a BA in history. In his younger days, Gordy was a member/lighting technician for the 1960's band ""The Flower Power"". He was a devout Christian who was devoted to his family. All who knew him loved him.
Gordy is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Jo Lynn Higdon; his daughter, Leslie (Michael) Harrien; his son, Donovan (Rachel) Higdon; his cherished grandchildren, Aaron Higdon and Lily Harrien; and two joyfully anticipated grandchildren; his sister, Nancy (Hollis) Taylor; and his brother, Drue (Debbie) Higdon.
Thank you to the team of medical professionals at Memorial Hospital's ER and ICU for their compassionate care during his final illness.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 18, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. at Campground Baptist Church, 20577 Highway 53, Gulfport, MS 39503.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road in Gulfport, served the family.
