Hilda Jo Stanford

Hilda Jo Morgan Stanford, age 87 and a resident of Gulfport, passed away on January 10, 2016, in Gulfport. She was born on July 14, 1928, the youngest of four daughters, to Mack Mobley and Lillie Burkes Shannon.
Mrs. Stanford was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Hazel S. Brown, Loray S. Davidson, and Maxine Sinclair; her first husband, Jimmy M. Morgan; her infant daughter, Karen Dawn Morgan and her second husband, David Stanford.
She is survived by a daughter, Gail Morgan (Mickey) Hearn; her son, Jimmy M. Morgan; her stepson, David Stanford; her grandchildren, Ryan (Dawn R.) Hearn, Morgan Hearn, Amber Hearn (Eric) Spurgeon, and Lauren Hearn (Barret) Biandis; her great grandchildren, Tyler and Haley Hearn, Brennon, Jaren, and Sinclaire Hearn, Sutton Spurgeon, and Brianna Biandis and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Mrs. Stanford was a native of Meridian and a longtime resident of Laurel and Gulfport. She worked as a legal secretary for 27 years and later was co-owner of a small family business in Laurel. In earlier years, she was an active member of the Jones County and the Mississippi Association of Legal Secretaries.
After retiring in 1987, she moved to Gulfport to be with her second husband, Dave Stanford. She joined the Gulf Cost Newcomers Club where she chaired many committees, held several offices, received numerous awards and made many wonderful friends. She was a member of Bel-Aire Baptist Church and her beloved Rebekah Sunday School Class. Her passions in life were her love for her family, very many special friends, her church, and gardening. Jo will be forever missed by her children, grandchildren, and many friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2016, at 2pm at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road in Gulfport, where friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Cemetery in Gulfport.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Bel-Aire Baptist Church, Building Fund, 15080 Dedeaux Road, Gulfport, MS 39503.
