Herman Watts, Jr.

Herman Watts, age 88 of Long Beach, MS, peacefully went to be with his heavenly father on November29, 2019, at Memorial Hospital, Gulfport, MS, with his loving family by his side.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Lee Watts Sr. and Mable Harris Watts; his brother, James (Jimmy) Dale Watts; and his brother in law, William (Bill) Thomas May and his daughter, DeLisa Lee.

Herman is survived by the love of his life, his wife Helen of 62 years; his son, Thomas Dale; his grandson, Trevor Lee; and many close friends.

Herman was born in Phillip, Mississippi on September 18th 1931.  He grew up in Pascagoula and graduated from Pascagoula High School in 1950.  After graduation, he attended Perkinston Junior College prior to serving in the US Navy for four years.  He returned home to complete his education, earning a BS degree in electrical engineering from Mississippi State University and an MBA from University of Southern Mississippi.

Herman’s illustrious career took him to New Jersey, Huntsville, AL, and Stennis Space Center.  He worked as an instrumentation engineer and technical manager with RCA, Ingalls Shipyard, General Electric, and Computer Sciences Corporation under contract to NASA and as a Civil Servant with NASA until his retirement in 1994.

During his many years at Long Beach First Baptist Church, Herman served on numerous committees, taught Sunday School in the Preschool, Young Adult and Senior Adult Departments.  He was elected as a deacon in 1968 and was a faithful servant of our Lord and this church for many years.
