Herman Paul (Jack) Hudson, Jr., age 84, died Friday, April 28, 2006, at his home in Saucier after a long illness.
He was born in Birmingham, AL, but moved to Grenada, MS, at an early age where he graduated from high school in 1940. He attended college at Sunflower Jr. College in Moorhead, MS, and joined the U.S. Marines after Pearl Harbor. He served two years in the South Pacific during World War II, served tours of duty in Korea and Vietnam, and retired after 25 years of service to his country.
Mr. Hudson is preceded in death by his parents, Herman P. Hudson, Sr. and Ruby Hudson; his wife, Patricia Hudson and his second wife, Ruth Hudson.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marguerite; son, Peter Hudson of Melbourne, Australia and his wife Jan; three daughters, April Parker of Brunswick, GA and her husband Julian, Shauna Slawson of Jacksonville, FL and her husband Phillip, and Kelly Guffey of Brunswick, GA and her husband Bruce; four granddaughters, Diana Hudson, Nicole Gervais, Kalyn and Devon Guffey; two grandsons, Matthew Hudson and Josh Gervais; stepdaughters, Kathy Blasingame of Azle, TX and her husband Mark, Karen Stewart of Tempe, AZ, Maureen MacArthur of San Leon, TX and her husband Arthur; stepgrandchildren, Keith, Scott, and Kevin Blasingame, Molly and Mindy McArthur, and four step greatgrandchildren. Mr. Hudson is also survived by his brother, Thomas Hudson of Grenada, MS and his wife Ann; two nieces, Ann Hart Hames of Grenada, MS and her husband Gary, and Laura Torrence of Flora, MS and her husband Cliff.
Mr. Hudson was a member of the Lion's Club for over 40 years. He served as President of the Brunswick Lions Club for two different terms and was Chairman of the Peach Bowl Pageant sponsored by the District 18-B Lions of Georgia for ten years. All profits generated go to the Georgia Lighthouse for eye research and sight conservation. He also worked with the Lions Eye Bank in the Brunswick area. He joined the MS City Lions Club eight years ago when he moved to Saucier after he married his high school sweetheart, his present wife.
He was an avid golfer and while stationed in California, he won the Marine West Coast Tournament. After retiring from Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, he had more time to pursue his hobbies of woodworking and reading.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Brunswick, but he attended Orange Grove Presbyterian Church in Gulfport.
Gulf Coast Funeral Homes, Inc., Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, is arranging for Mr. Hudson to be sent to Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, Inc. in Brunswick, GA, where graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2006, at 11a.m. at Chapel Park Cemetery with full military honors.
A memorial service will be held at Orange Grove Presbyterian Church, Gulfport, at a later date.
