Helen Marie Alves Wajda, age 96 of Vancleave formerly of Biloxi, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2026, after a long battle with dementia.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Eugene Anthony Wajda, Sr.; her sons, Anthony Jospeh Wajda and Eugene Athony Wajda, Jr.; her parents, Joe and Mable Alves; and her siblings, Mona Sorcie, Daniel Alves and Ray Alves.
Helen is survived by her children, Jeanne (Robert) Dykgraaf and John Wajda; her grandchildren, Jason (Jennifer) Wajda, Amy (Chad) Rhodes and Candace (Mike) Littleman and great grandchildren, Rachel, Stephanie and Ryan Wajda, Ember Rhodes, Savannah and Alyssa Littleman.
Helen was born and raised in Biloxi, Mississippi, the proud daughter of a fisherman. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School, graduating in 1948. It was at Durand's Restaurant in Biloxi that she met the love of her life, Eugene. The two were married in 1953 and shared 50 wonderful years together.
As a devoted military wife, Helen embraced a life of adventure and service alongside her husband, living in France, England, and at several military bases across the United States. No matter where life took her, her greatest joy was always her family. She cherished every moment spent with those she loved and was known for her generous spirit, compassionate heart, and constant willingness to help others.
The Mississippi Gulf Coast always held a special place in Helen's heart, and upon retirement she and Eugene returned to Biloxi, where she was grateful to be back in the community she had always called home. A woman of deep and unwavering faith, Helen was a devout Catholic and attended St. Michael Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at St Michael Catholic Church. Burial will follow Mass at Biloxi National Cemetery.
